Foods Diabetics Should Probably Stay Away From

Pretzels

We love pretzels as much as the next person (who really loves pretzels), but you definitely don't need us to remind you that these aren't good for you. It's true that they're great to keep in your purse for a snack on the move, but the whole point is that they're covered in salt or some other flavoring. And diabetics should be careful about how much salt they eat, so adding extra to their diet isn't a good idea.

Not only do pretzels have a lot of salt, but they also have a lot of refined carbs that might raise your blood sugar. So, you might want to leave pretzels off your grocery list for now.

Bottled Tea

You're not the only one who likes to start the day with some sweet or bottled tea. Most grocery stores have shelves and shelves of bottled tea. These bottles are great for when you're on the go and need something to drink, but the tea inside isn't good for people with diabetes. These drinks can have a lot of sugar in them, which people with diabetes should stay away from at all costs.

Not only that, but a lot of these bottles are huge, so you're consuming even more sugar. You can still drink tea from a bottle, but make sure to read the label and know how much you should drink.

Bagels

You can't go wrong with a bagel for breakfast, can you? No. Bagels taste great and come in a wide range of flavors, but they are just as bad for you as eating six lives of white bread at once. Bagels are made of carbs and refined grains, which means they will quickly raise your blood sugar levels. This can be challenging for those with diabetes to control.

It's crucial to choose the correct breakfast because even whole grain bagels might cause blood sugar problems. In the big picture, bread is better than a bagel.
