Iconic Foods Beloved Only by Baby Boomers
Kellogg’s Cornflakes
If you're a Boomer, you probably have good memories of the Saturday morning TV shows you watched as a kid. Those shows were ads, and that's probably where you first heard of brands like Kellogg's. You probably remember sitting in front of the TV on Saturday mornings with a bowl of cereal in your hands and eating it while you watched TV. People know Kellogg's for its breakfast cereals, like Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Froot Loops, and Frosted Flakes. Let's talk about the last one.
Aspartame
Boomers used artificial sweeteners like Aspartame instead of sugar, which is full of calories. They were told they could have sugar, but it wouldn't have any of the bad effects. In an interesting turn of events, we found out in the last few decades that artificial sweeteners are even worse for you than sugar. Many studies have shown that Aspartame and other similar substances can help you lose weight if you don't use them too much. But if you rely on it too much as a sugar substitute, you might start to dislike healthy food, gain weight, and mess up your metabolism.
Tuna Noodle Casserole
Boomers like all kinds of processed and canned foods, but they really like canned tuna. One of their favorite things to make with canned tuna is the classic tuna noodle casserole. We don't know why they like a dish with frozen peas, cooked noodles, tuna, and condensed soup. Just thinking about this mix is enough to make anyone sick. Tuna noodle casserole is a sad, gross excuse for a meal.
Cool Whip
Many of us have good memories of Cool Whip. People often use Cool Whip, a brand of whipped topping, as a dessert. We remember how nice it was to have some ready-made whipped sauce to put on our cakes. Cool Whip was a creamy treat that didn't have many calories. It was one of the most famous desserts of the 1970s. Sadly, this whipped sauce is full of ingredients that we don't know how to say. The fat-free version is just as bad because it has hydrogenated oils in it.
Strawberry BonBons
Strawberry bonbons have been called a candy that will never go out of style. And you'll see that there's a good reason for that. If you were around in the 80s and 90s, you would have seen them almost everywhere. These candies seemed to appear out of nowhere, from convenience stores to teachers' jars. And they are still here now. This would have been great if the candies tasted good. But they don't. They were awful.
Cream Cheese and Bologna Sandwiches
In the United States, the bologna sandwich is a common food. A lot of people who don't want to spend a lot of time cooking or who are too busy to cook like it. We don't even mind that Baby Boomers think bologna is a good kind of meat. But why put cream cheese between it and white bread? Cream cheese should get more respect. It's not okay to eat a sandwich like this when there are so many exciting new food trends and so much amazing food research going on.
