Rules Duchess Kate Middleton Has to Follow

The Duchess Must Wear a Hat

Do you think it would be hard to wear a hat every time you went out in public? In the past, it was thought wrong for a woman to go out in public without a hat. It seems that this custom has stuck with the royal family. Because of this, women in the royal family, like Kate Middleton, are told to wear hats whenever they go out in public.

She can switch from a hat to a tiara when she goes from one place to another if the event is both indoors and outdoors.

Kate Is Not Allowed to Play Monopoly

Alright, this one is a bit odd and not like the others. It is not an official rule that was written down when Monopoly was first made, but it is an unofficial rule in the Royal Family. Prince Andrew once said that his family doesn't play games like Monopoly because they're afraid of getting into a fight over being too competitive.

It looks like they've had trouble with this in the past, which is why they made this rule. It probably applies to other types of games as well.

Kate Must Be an Expert at the Royal Wave

You don't just hear about the royal wave; it's real. It is a very important part of a royal's life, and they take it very seriously. Kate has to follow a lot of rules about the "Windsor wave" all the time. This wave was meant to make them look more graceful and also keep their wrists from hurting from too much waving.

What is the royal wave, exactly? Someone who hasn't seen it before might think it looks a little strange, but it's just a vertical wave with a little movement around the wrist.

Brightly Colored Nail Polish Is Not Allowed

It's funny to think that the rules are so strict that the Duchess can't wear nail polish that is bright. But they seem to have thought of everything, and bright nail polish is not allowed. She can only wear colors that are subtle and traditional. That means no bright reds, purples, greens, blues, or anything else like that. If she wants to go crazy, she can only wear beige or light pink.

This rule also applies to hair colors, so you probably won't see the Duchess with brightly colored hair or nails anytime soon.

Fur Is Strictly Forbidden

As of 2019, members of the Royal family are not allowed to wear anything made of real fur. It may seem like this is just a part of the world's trends, but the rule actually goes back to 1137. King Edward III made a law that said no one, not even his own family, could wear fur.

You might be confused by the sight of Kate Middleton wearing a "fur" hat, but it's actually fake fur, which is totally fine and doesn't break any rules.

The Princess of Wales Must Always Be Neutral

Switzerland isn't the only place that stays neutral most of the time; members of the royal family have to do the same. They can't really say what they think about politics or political situations, especially when they have to talk to the media. They shouldn't tell the world what they think about politics. They should keep their thoughts to themselves and not tell anyone else.

It's understandable that they can't talk about their political views with the public because their job isn't political.
