Rules Duchess Kate Middleton Has to Follow

She Must Always Be Prepared With an All Black Outfit

If you're in the Royal family, the most important thing is to be ready for anything. Because of this, the Princess of Wales has to bring an all-black outfit with her whenever she goes abroad. This is just in case someone from the Royal family dies while she is away. She needs to be ready to mourn them in the right clothes in the meantime.

When you're just trying to go on a short trip abroad, this is a pretty sad thing to think about. But that's one of the things that comes with being a member of the Royal family.

There Is No Undressing in Public

Okay, this might sound a little extreme and obvious at first, but a royal like Kate Middleton shouldn't be seen getting undressed in public. But once you know what counts as undressing, you'll see that it's not so clear-cut after all. Taking off a coat, for instance, is considered undressing, and Kate can't be seen doing it in public. She can only take off her coat in private.

Think about how hot it would be to walk inside after being outside in a coat. You can't take off your coat until you can do it in private.

She Must Be Careful With Her Colors

When people leave the house, they don't think about the colors they wear very much. They just grab whatever is easy to get to in their closets. But Kate Middleton can't be that flexible. Before any event, they have to carefully pick out the colors they will wear. This picture shows that the Duchess is getting ready to go to Ireland by wearing green.

Some people might think this is a little too much, but this is what the Royal family has to do to seem polite and diplomatic when they go to other countries.

Kate Middleton Has to Always Have Knee Length Skirts

When you are a member of the Royal Family, it is very important to dress modestly. You shouldn't show too much skin, especially when people are waiting on every corner to take pictures of you. Because of this, the Duchess has to wear skirts that are at least knee-length. They can be longer, but they can't be shorter than that.

They really want to avoid the risk of a skirt blowing up in the wind and showing the Duchess to the world. She will even put stones or weights in the hem of her skirts to keep them from blowing away in the wind.

Curtseying Rules Are Very Important

You might have to spend a few hours looking up all the rules about curtseying in the Royal family if you want to know them all. The rules aren't easy to understand, and they can be very hard to follow. For instance, Kate has to bow to the King, but not to the princesses if Prince William is with her. But if she's by herself, she does have to curtsey to them.

It must be hard to remember all the times when you have to or should curtsey. When you're in a different situation, there is a lot to remember.

There Are Many Etiquette Rules for Dinnertime

Etiquette is mostly a thing of the past, but not when it comes to the Royal family. When it comes to eating and dinnertime, the Princess of Wales has to follow a lot of rules. There are some clear rules, like not getting food all over your face while you eat, and some that aren't as clear, like what to say if you have to leave the table.

She should just say "Excuse me" if she needs to go to the bathroom and not give any more details. The people around her don't need to know where she's going.
