Rules Duchess Kate Middleton Has to Follow

The Monarch Must Always Be Told First

You might not think that there is a specific order of people who need to know about important news events and big events, but if you have a Monarch in your life, there is. If Kate Middleton finds out she's pregnant, she can tell her parents first, but then she has to tell the Queen right away. The law says this for the Royal family.

In fact, there is a law that goes back to 1772 that says people need to ask the Monarch for permission to get married or propose.

She Has to Be Careful What She Eats

Would you ever think that the Royal family can't eat a lot of things? Yes, there is. They can't eat shellfish or other foods that are known to cause allergies because one of them might be allergic to them. Some people say that garlic is also not allowed, but this has not been proven yet.

There are even a lot of rules about how to hold a teacup. Kate is doing very well and holding it right, as you can see in this picture.

Her Wedding Must Follow the Protocols

You would think that the wedding would have a lot of rules, along with a lot of other things in the Royal family. Anyone who is marrying into the Royal family or any members of the Royal family who are getting married has to follow a lot of rules. There are some less important rules, like what kind of flowers must be in the bouquet, and some more important rules, like how to name and title people.

When the royals get married, they have to follow a long list of rules. These are just two of those rules.

The Duchess Cannot Turn Her Back on the Monarch

There is a rule that says no one can turn their back on the King or Queen as a sign of respect. This rule applies to everyone, even the Princess of Wales. It was made to stop the mistake of someone leaving while the Monarch is still talking to them, which would be a big mistake and a huge embarrassment.

Now that you know this, you might notice that all of the Royal family always keeps their backs to the monarchs and only faces forward.

The Duchess' Children Need to Be Multilingual

Being a kid in the Royal family doesn't sound easy. It might seem like being a prince or princess would be fun, but it's probably not as great as it seems. They have to take etiquette classes, have bodyguards with them all the time, and speak at least one other language.

Most royals learn French or Spanish, but they have to know at least one other language, which makes sense for anyone in a diplomatic position.

Public Displays of Affection Are Not Allowed

It must be hard enough to be told what to wear all the time, but the Royal family is also told how to treat their loved ones. For instance, showing affection in public is not allowed. People think it is unprofessional, and it is not allowed. They can't show affection when they're in public because they have to keep their look.

When they go out in public, it's like they have to act like they're not a couple. They can't hold hands or touch each other in any way.
